Proven Teaching

Jeannette has enjoyed teaching English language and literature to students since 2000. As Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Jeannette designed an English composition course that was part of the required curriculum. Her students, from a dozen international countries, consistently evaluated Ms. Law as a highly prepared instructor with engaging, creative lessons.

In the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma program at the American School of Milan, Jeannette’s students achieved final marks that were 1.5 points higher (+43%) than the worldwide average. She was nominated Assistant Examiner for the IB Organization after 9 months of teaching the psychology curriculum. Jeannette also spearheaded a school-based SAT preparation course, where she supported students in the verbal and writing portions of the SAT.

A mother-tongue English speaker, Jeannette held the role of Lettrice di Inglese at the Istituto Maria Consolatrice in Milan. Her English lessons successfully prepared Italian students for the Cambridge First Certificate (level B2) and the Esame di Stato (maturità).  By request, Jeannette now offers intensive preparation in English reading, listening, speaking, and writing for the IELTS English Language Test.

By way of academic background, Jeannette has specialized in English language and literature.  She holds a BA magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in English and psychology from Wellesley College, and a Master’s in English from Cambridge University.  For her outstanding academic achievements, Jeannette was awarded a graduate fellowship for doctoral studies in English and American literature at the University of California, Berkeley.

Jeannette’s own poetry has garnered a number of university prizes:  a first-class mark and the coveted Quiller-Couch Prize at Cambridge University, the Rima Alamuddin Prize for original composition, and the Florence Annette Wing Prize for excellence in lyric poetry.  Selections of Jeannette’s poetry were published in an anthology of creative writing in 2006.  For more info, see Honors & Awards.
